About the Role

This role is primarily laboratory-based and centers on designing and executing non-standard, problem-specific experiments to support process and materials development. Responsibilities include bench scale experimentation, sample preparation, and analytical characterization, as well as analyzing and communicating high quality data to support decision making.

The position involves designing and conducting laboratory experiments, performing analytical characterization of samples, troubleshooting experimental issues, and generating high-quality data to support chemical process and materials development. A strong emphasis is placed on analytical chemistry, including operating and maintaining advanced instrumentation, method development, and quality control practices. The role also supports day-to-day laboratory operations through the development of standard operating procedures, experimental protocols, and troubleshooting documentation, as well as training team members on laboratory practices and instrument use.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining safe and efficient laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and managing inventory, procurement, and vendor coordination. Close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential to translate experimental insights into process and technology improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and perform laboratory experiments to support research and development objectives
  • Develop, refine, and execute experimental procedures and test methods
  • Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC,
    TGA, DSC, UV-Vis)
  • Develop, validate, and execute analytical methods for chemical and material characterization
  • Interpret and report analytical data to support research and development, and process development
  • Troubleshoot analytical challenges and improve testing methodologies
  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to support project objectives
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with laboratory quality standards
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient lab environment

Skills and Qualifications

  • BSc (with strong experience) or MSc in Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering or a related field
  • 2 – 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience in a research and development environment
  • Strong practical laboratory skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation
  • Experience with analytical method development and validation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Requirements

  • Authorised to work in Canada
  • Full time, onsite position

Salary Range

CAD$60,000 – CAD$75,000
Within this pay range, individual pay will be determined by factors including job-related skills, relevant experience, and level of education.
